All of our doctors provide child health services and work with their young patients and their families to provide a calm and safe environment.
We understand that children may have a natural apprehension about a visit to the doctor, especially when they are ill.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and taking preventative steps to identify risks early is important. Give your kids a healthy start today by talking to your GP about your child’s health. Our GP’s are happy to answer any questions you have and can track your child’s development with regular check-ups.
Growth and Development Checks
Children grow and develop quickly. A regular check-up with your GP can help track your child’s development and give you insight into potential risk factors in their lives. A child health assessment can help identify issues that are presenting themselves, so they can be managed appropriately.
Childhood Vaccinations
Immunising your child is an important step in preparing for a healthy life. The government is also offering incentives for parents to ensure children’s immunisations are up-to-date.
Managing Chronic Conditions
Chronic disease is a difficult issue for adults to come to terms with, let alone children. And yet unfortunately, they are not exempt from the stress and problems associated with chronic illnesses like diabetes, obesity, and asthma. We offer a range of services including mental health support so your child and your family receive the support and advice required to make the changes needed to deal with chronic illness.
The Babysleep Doctor
The Babysleep Doctor is available at Para Hills Clinic. The strategy aims to ensure that women and families experience the joy of parenting and attain a life balance, whereby there is an appropriate allocation of time for the baby, other children, partner and sleep. This service is provided by Dr Brian Symon, General Practitioner and Dr Georgie Crichton, Clinical Psychologist.
Baby wellbeing is inextricably linked to a mothers’ wellbeing. A well-informed, confident, happy and well-rested mother is better able to care for her baby and wakes in the morning genuinely enthusiastic about caring for her baby.
The Babysleep Doctor strategy works with parents and the baby and uses a tailored approach to deal with problems of sleep, feeding, growth and/or behaviour so that all families can experience the joys of parenting.
The Babysleep Doctor strategy:
- Was developed by Dr Brian Symon with more than 30 years’ experience working with women and babies.
- It is administered by The Babysleep Doctor and consultants who are post-graduate-trained health care professionals and have been specially trained in The Babysleep Doctor strategy.
- Strengthens the family unit by developing a pattern of family life which gives an appropriate balance between time for the new baby, all other family members, personal time and rest.
- Can begin before the baby’s birth. By seeing a woman before her baby’s birth we are able to give knowledge and teach strategies which, if used immediately after the child’s birth, can decrease the risks of problems relating to sleep, feeding and growth.
- Can be adopted and used by all carers, not just parents.
- Involves specialist advice that is implemented by parents and families, is non-intrusive and builds confidence amongst parents to implement the strategy in their own homes.
- Is specifically designed to minimise infant distress and develop emotional wellbeing.
